I was delighted by how the conference went over the weekend and cannot imagine how it could have gone any better. Thank you to all of those who were able to attend, and especially to those who delivered such excellent speeches.

For those who were unable to attend, one of the important announcements made was in relation to the launch of a new cross-party alliance, support for which I canvassed on 10th July: https://dvparty.uk/uniting-for-brexit/

365 people responded to this question. 358 of these voted in favour of an alliance. However, the majority of participants were not members. Of members, 126 with valid membership numbers voted, with 100% voting in favour of the motion. The Brexit Alliance was therefore registered with the Electoral Commission on the final morning of the conference, 15th September 2018.

What is the Alliance for?

The purpose of the Brexit Alliance is strictly that of being a temporary strategic alliance exclusively for the purpose of uniting with other pro-Brexit small parties and independent candidates for the sake of removing pro-Remain members of Parliament, and working to get as many pro-Leave candidates elected as possible – in the event that another snap General Election is called next year as a means of attempting to thwart our genuine exit from the European Union.

This Brexit Alliance does not require any other collaborating parties to adhere to any arbitrary aims or values, or to assist us in supporting any agenda that is not strictly connected to the pursuit of our immediate exit from the European Union. The only values and aims stated in the alliance’s constitution are as follows:

2.1 The Alliance is a democratic organisation which will only adopt policies which are consistent with our core principles, being those which:

a. Ensure Britain’s swift exit from our membership of the European Union;

b. Repeal all legislation that contravenes the provisions of the 1689 Bill of Rights that require that “no foreign prince, person, prelate, state or potentate hath or ought to have any jurisdiction, power, superiority or pre-eminence within this realm”.

3.1 The Brexit Alliance’s aim is to ensure the sovereignty, political independence, and perpetual rights of national self-determination of the United Kingdom.

3.2 The Alliance believes that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (hereinafter “The United Kingdom”) should be governed only by her own citizens, and that all legislation passed by Parliament should be formulated with primary respect to the national interest, security and prosperity of the British people.

Are the Democrats and Veterans merging with other parties?

No, absolutely not. We maintain our work, purpose and methods precisely as they are at present. We continue to fight local elections in our party name, and indeed, in the event that there is no snap General Election called, nothing changes from its present condition or status.

Moving forward

We are very much looking forward to potentially valuable cooperative relationships being formed with fellow Brexiters over the coming months, and anticipate invitations being sent out to a number of individuals and organisations to join the alliance over the next few weeks. Please remember that applications may come from a wide variety of people and organisations, many aspects of whose values and aims we may as a party be diametrically opposed to.

The nature of a strategic alliance is extremely limited in scope and should not infer our party’s approval of any aspect of what is being attemptedly achieved by these other groups; only that we wish to combine forces in a strictly limited way, for the sole purpose of regaining our national independence.
